Did you know it’s Small Business Week? For us small business owners, this week is like birthday week, exam week and prom all packed into 5 days of learning, celebration and support other small business owners.

When I started my small business 7 years ago this month, I was terrified! I remember crying in my parent’s living room one evening because the pressure of being the my own boss was so overwhelming. What if the clients didn’t come? What if everyone thought I was a joke? I’m not kidding, all the scary thoughts came bubbling to the surface as my parents comforted and reassured me.
I don’t even know if they were any less scared than I was, but they told me what I needed to hear that night, and they hugged and comforted the worries away.

In the 7 years since I took that big scary step, I’ve learned a few things:
1) nothing is ever as scary as your own worst fears.
2) nothing makes me happier than making the amazing clients I’m blessed to serve over the moon happy
3)some seasons will be hard. It’s true. But the hard seasons make us stronger, smarter and savvier.
4)Never. Ever. Let go of your integrity, and always be true to yourself and your word.
5)with enough Coffee anything is possible.

This week, as I do every two or so years, during October, I’m rolling out a new version of our website.
This year there is a clarity and a confidence in the message throughout the site. It speaks to the love for this gig I’ve called my career for 20 years; and oh, it’s so very beautiful. Just like life... after you’ve earned your stripes, after you’ve learned the lessons, after you’ve overcome the fears; after a million damn cups of coffee. 😂☕️

So this Small Business Week, here’s to the rule breakers, the courageous ones who look their fears in the face & give them a brazen wink. Here’s to the amazing clients who make what we do worth doing; here’s to the families who listen to the worries, cheer on the victories & and celebrate the milestones. Here’s to the fellow small business owners who recognize that sparkle in our eye and share a knowing smile. It’s pretty great to be a small business owner.
